Lita: It should never happen again

Posted on: Tue 13 May 2008

After the pain felt at Derby on Sunday, Leroy Lita says the players should make sure they are never relegated again during their careers in the game.

It was a desperately cruel way to go down, winning 4-0 but coming up short because Fulham edged out Portsmouth with a Danny Murphy goal at Fratton Park.

Now Leroy wants to ensure he and the squad never feel pain like it again.

Speaking in an interview that is live on Reading World now, he said, "It's not a good situation and we've got to make sure we're never here again in our careers, especially the younger players.

"When we were 3-0, I could tell from our fans that Fulham had scored and I could tell from our bench because they were all sat down, it was very quiet.

"It's hard to think about it but it's not gone our way."

Despite our pedigree in the Championship, Leroy expects anything but an easy ride next season.

"We all know the Championship is not easy for anyone. A lot of teams who go down don't come straight back up.

"It's tough but we have to go away, recharge and think about next season."

Lita was asked about his own future but said, "I don't know yet, I'm not thinking about that, I'm thinking about the team.

"Everyone put in a great effort to keep the club in the Premiership, we won 4-0 but came up short."

The full interview is live on World now - see our free preview clip.
