Young goalkeeper Ben Hamer has signed a new one-year contract, and has also tied up a season-long loan switch to Brentford.
20-year-old Hamer made 21 appearances for the Bees during a similar loan spell last season, having spent the previous campaign on loan at Crawley.
Director of Football Nick Hammond told readingfc.co.uk, "Goalkeepers need to be given time to fulfil their potential, and this loan will give Ben an opportunity to get more league games under his belt at a young age.
"He had a good loan period last season and we are confident he can continue to progress - we know Brentford well, they are local to us so it's easy to monitor Ben closely, and the deal suits all three parties."
Bees manager Andy Scott added, "I'm delighted to have signed Ben on a season-long loan deal and he comes in as my number one for this season.
"He deserves the opportunity based on what I saw of him last season and he will be mentally and physically tougher as a result. He made a few mistakes last season but you can expect that from an inexperienced keeper and he will learn from that.
"Ben will be dedicated to carry on learning and we can help with this. It's an advantage that we already know him and that he knows us."
