Former Royal Richardson given testimonial
Former Reading defender Steve Richardson has been granted a testimonial by Basingstoke Town when the two sides meet in a pre-season friendly later this month.
The Royals' second string will travel to Basingstoke on Saturday 26th July (3pm kick off), with the first team in the middle of their Sweden tour.
Full-back Richardson was a hugely popular player at Elm Park for more than a decade.
After joining the Club in 1982, he won the player of the year award in his first two seasons and helped the team to promotion from Division Four in 1983/4.
He went on to play a key role in the 'Record-Breaking Royals' of 1985 who won their first 13 games en route to the Division Three title, and also played in our Simod Cup victory against Luton at Wembley in 1988.
Steve totalled an impressive 457 games for the Royals before leaving in 1993, and he has spent the last 13 years with Basingstoke.
