Ex-keeper set for Argyle move

Posted on: Thu 17 Jul 2008

Former Reading goalkeeper Graham Stack looks set to sign for our Championship rivals Plymouth Argyle.

Graham left Madejski Stadium this summer when his contract at Madejski Stadium expired.

He has been training with the Pilgrims this pre-season, and is now ready to put pen to paper on a contract.

Argyle boss Paul Sturrock said, "I felt like it was a no-brainer. Graham is a Premiership and Championship goalkeeper, he's seen it, done it and got the t-shirt.

"He's had a good week's training and adapted well. He is really hungry for this opportunity, and I like hungry players.

"He's a good kicker and a good talker. He has a good character, and seems very good around the changing room, he is effervescent."

26-year-old Stack spent the duration of last season out on loan at Wolves. He signed for Reading from Arsenal in summer 2005, initially on loan, making one League start and a further nine in the cups.

Upon his release from Reading, Nick Hammond was quick to praise Stack, saying, "Stacky didn't play many games, but in the promotion season the support he gave to the group and to Marcus was invaluable, you can't put a price on that.

"Sometimes it's not just a case of getting time on the pitch, and Graham Stack is a fine example of that. People might not see it because they only see the eleven who are out on the pitch. Steve Coppell regularly talks about the strength needed in a squad, the group."

Earlier this week John Oster began a trial with Derby as he looks for a new club.
