Royals draw Millwall clash

Posted on: Tue 22 Jul 2008

The Royals drew 1-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Millwall at Hogwood Park this afternoon.

A Reading XI went behind on 85 minutes as well-travelled striker Neil Harris chipped home, but Simon Church levelled just two minutes later to secure a draw.

Stephen Hunt played 45 minutes, while the likes of Alan Bennett, James Henry and Alex Pearce also lined up.

15-year-old schoolboys Jon Goddard and Charlie Losasso both came as substitutes on in the second half.

Reading: Andersen; Spence, Kelly, Bennett, Pearce; Karacan (Lossaso 80), Sigurdsson (Goddard 60), Henry, Hunt (Hateley HT); Bignall, Church

Millwall: Edwards, Dunne, Craig, Robinson, Whitbread, Smith (Martin), Abdou (Fuseini), Laird, Hackett (Spiller), Harris, Grimes (Forbes).

First team coach Nigel Gibbs was happy with the runout, telling readingfc.co.uk, "It was a good game, Millwall had a strong team with first team players and we were pleased.

"We had a few chances, we played some good stuff at times, especially in the first hour. We tired a little bit toward the end but overall there was a good tempo.

"Neil Harris scored for Millwall with a good chipped finish with only five to go, it was unstoppable really.

"Then Churchy cut in from the right and hit one left footed that went through a few bodies to beat the keeper.

"The back four were solid, Pearcey and Benno in there, it was a good performance."

The goals will be on Reading World on Tuesday.
