Ibrahima Sonko insists that two clean sheets from opening week of the season mean more to him than his two goals against Plymouth on Saturday.
The Senegal international said, "I take more pleasure from keeping a clean sheet than scoring a goal.
"Clean sheets are more beautiful to me - if you don't concede you can't lose and I'm happy to leave scoring goals to the forwards!
"If we can get 25 clean sheets this season we should have a good chance of doing well, so two in the first two games is encouraging.
"We want to get back into the Premier League as soon as possible, but there are still 44 games to go so it's too early to start talking about promotion."
Sonks revealed that his brace matches his previous best-ever goalscoring tally, saying, "I scored two for Brentford a few years ago; one with my head and one with my left foot - I don't get many of them! But I've never scored a hat-trick in my entire life.
"Wally Downes is always telling me to score more goals from set pieces so he should be happy with me! Bikey got two goals against Birmingham last season so I'm pleased to have matched him."
The defender nearly missed the game with a knee injury, and he said that he's unlikely to play for Senegal this week. "I have struggled all week with the injury and the physio did a great job to get me ready for the game.
"Senegal have got a friendly against Libya on Wednesday but I'll speak to the coach and maybe I won't play. The knee is not stable yet so it might be a good idea to take it easy this week."
Sonks also echoed the words of his manager Steve Coppell in stating that his problems at the end of last season are now firmly in the past.
"It's all forgotten about and I am putting last season behind me," he said.
"I went away in the summer to play for Senegal and that helped me forget about the traumas of last season. We have to move on and I'm happy to be playing.
"I don't think anyone can question my commitment to Reading - we had a misunderstanding last season but I am fully committed and looking forward."
Both Sonko's goals are live on Reading World now, with extended highlights coming to follow.
