Golbourne back in business

Posted on: Wed 20 Aug 2008

Young left back Scott Golbourne is aiming to challenge for a first team chance after recovering from a pelvic injury.

The former Bristol City starlet made his comeback in Monday's reserve team victory over Southampton, and now hopes to catch Steve Coppell's eye.

20-year-old Scott said, "Monday was my first game for nearly five months, so it was nice to be back out there and a bonus to put in decent performance and get a good result.

"But the main thing was for me to get through 90 minutes and I was very pleased to do that."

Scott endured a painful summer recovering from his injury, and recalled, "It was a pelvis problem that built up over time. I initially played through it, but during a training session in April it collapsed.

"I was in a lot of pain and couldn't move off the sofa for three or four days, but I did a lot of rehab over the summer with our physio Luke Anthony and he managed to put me back together!

"In a way the injury was good timing because I haven't missed too many games, but in another way it was bad timing because it coincided with Nicky Shorey's departure.

"Hunty is doing a good job at left back but obviously it's not his preferred position, so hopefully I can be in with a shout to play a part this season."

Scott is unconcerned by the possibility of Steve Coppell signing another player in his position, arguing, "We've only really got one left back at the club so it would be understandable if the manager signed someone, and you do need competition.

"Nicky Shorey was tremendous for this club and while he was here the window of opportunity for me was a tiny one, but now there's a better opportunity so hopefully I'll be able to get my chance."
