Mooney - Promotion is my aim
New signing David Mooney aims to help Reading straight back into the Premier League this season.
The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a three-year contract on Wednesday evening, and immediately set his sights on a rapid return to the top flight.
Speaking to our online TV station Reading World, David said, "There's a lot of healthy competition here, and we can all push each other to get to the Premier League.
"Getting this team back in the Premier League is the most important thing. I want to get into the squad as early as I can, force my way into the team but the bigger picture is for the team to get promoted."
He continued, "I'm delighted to sign, it's happened very quickly in the last couple of days and I'm happy to get it finalised. It's great to be here, it's a fantastic club."
David has been in cracking goalscoring form for Cork City, and the current Irish player of the year is on top form as they are still in the middle of their season.
When asked about his attributes he said, "I suppose my reputation from Ireland is a bit of a goalscorer, as it goes. But I'll work hard for the team and try to create chances for others by being a team player.
"I think I've played 28 games this season and I'm raring to go. Hopefully I can get into training with the rest of the lads now and impress the manager.
"I've hit 20 goals, and that was my target for the whole season! I definitely didn't expect to get there so soon."
Mooney further strengthens our Irish contingent here in Berkshire, and he is keen to follow in the successful footsteps of the likes of Kevin Doyle.
He commented, "There's a lot of Irish lads here, and if I can do half as much as them I'll have done well. But I'm my own man and it will be up to me.
"I know Noel very well from Shamrock Rovers. I don't know the others lads yet, but obviously I know who they are! Maybe Kevin and Shane following Cork might know me but we'll all get together soon."
