Background to Sonko statement

Posted on: Sat 30 Aug 2008

By Craig Mortimer-Zhika, Website Manager

You may have read news stories throughout today about Ibrahima Sonko's transfer to Stoke City, and wondered why there was no reference to it here at the Club's official website readingfc.co.uk until the early evening.

There's a simple answer to that: only when a deal is fully confirmed and all the paperwork has been completed will we announce it here at the official site.

You might have read a story elsewhere at lunchtime which 'understood' that Sonko had signed for the Potters, but that was jumping the gun somewhat.

In any transfer, every piece of paperwork has to be ratified by the authorities before a player can be truly considered signed - until everyone has dotted each i and crossed every t then he officially remained our player.

Until then, a deal simply hasn't been done in official terms and anything could happen. We won't report rumours or speculation, and this is a site you can trust 100%.

This is the gateway to Reading FC, and we want fans to know that if something is going to happen, it will be reported here.

Communication to our supporters is of utmost importance to us, and as soon as an important deal like this is confirmed we will state it as fact.
