Royals defender Sam Sodje has signed a one-month loan deal with fellow Championship outfit Watford.

Sodje, 29, will remain at Vicarage Road until 28th October, and will train with his new team for the first time on Friday.

Hornets skipper Jay Demerit picked up an injury against West Ham in midweek, and Sam will fill the void.

He will go straight into the squad for their fixture this Saturday, a trip north to take on Sheffield United.

Sam has not played for our first team this season, but was on the bench for our 6-0 League win over Sheffield Wednesday, as well as the midweek Carling Cup exit at Stoke City.

He spent last season on loan at Alan Pardew's Charlton Athletic, playing 20(+7) times and scoring two goals.

He and has made 5(+3) appearances in a Reading shirt since signing in the summer of 2006.

He has also enjoyed a loan spell at West Brom at the end of the 2006/7, playing in their Wembley play-off final.

This move is the Royals' second loan exit in less than 24 hours, with Australian goalkeeper Adam Federici joining Southend United until 22nd October.

Simon Church is at Wycombe at the moment, but is expected to come back for a couple of weeks as he serves a suspension. Upon completion of that, he would be able to sign for the Chairboys once again.
