Royals boss Steve Coppell was delighted his side had taken their opportunities and beaten top-of-the table Wolves in stunning style.

"We had some terrific opportunites as well as the goals we scored," the Royals boss told the post-match press with a smile on his face.

"The first goal was decisive. Getting our noses in front was very, very important from a credibility point of view.

"But then we had to call upon good organisation to defend well and at half time it could have gone either way.

"We were mindful of the fact that they didn't have the focal point of their attack and I think missing Iwelumo and then losing Kightly and Jarvis later was a big factor.

"Their three-pronged attack which has been very effective gave us a little bit more freedom to go forward and score more goals."

And Coppell was keen to stress that Reading had planned to attack their league-leading opposition from the off.

"We had to try and have a go at Wolves. If you sit back they can maul you.

"It was a very conscious point of ours to 'have a go' as much as possible.

"But you don't just win games by running around - you have to try to be composed in possession when you can. It was a solid performance all around."

He did however play down the victory against high-flying Wolves and simply call it three well-earned points.

"Any win pleases me to be honest - I don't differentiate between them. It's three points.

"I said to the players before the game that whatever happens, it's only going to be three points either way.

"But psychologically I think a good performance was important.

"If you come to places like this, play a team who are playing ever so well, and don't perform, then it's a reflection on what you are about.

"So it was important that we played and I felt as if we were always trying to play.

"It wasn't just a backs to the wall rear-guard...it was important that we had a got at them."

And Coppell was not bothered who is claiming the opening goal, that has currently been credited as a Wayne Hennessey own goal.

"I don't know I don't ask. I just leave them to fight about it amongst themselves," he said when asked whether Doyle or Hunt were claiming the goal.

"It went in the back of the net...so I'm not bothered."
