Steve Coppell has been at the centre of what can only be described as a bizarre love triangle after Nigella Lawson's husband dreamt that the Reading boss was having an affair with the celebrity chef!
Lawson is married to advertising executive and art magnate Charles Saatchi, and she explained to the Mail On Sunday, "Charles dreamt that I had an affair with Steve Coppell!
"You know when someone wakes up in a bad mood with you and you haven't done anything? I said to him thanks a lot, you might have made it Mourinho!"
The paper harshly called Coppell a 'balding, gnome-like figure,' but Steve's only regret was that Nigella, five years his junior, did not wish for the affair herself!
Steve said with a smile, "The sad thing was that she never actually thought it herself! He wished it upon her and she must have wound him up big time!
"I didn't read it on the day but it's amazing how many people have sent it to me since, highlighting it.
"I reckon that's abuse by the way, calling me a balding gnome! The staff all found out and took the mick but the players didn't - they know better!
"There must be a folically-challenged short society somewhere I can go and join now."
