Michael Duberry made a successful return from injury as the Royals reserves defeated Northampton Town 6-0 in a friendly fixture at Hogwood Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The central defender played the first hour after recovering from a calf injury, while Marek Matejovsky also got another 75 minutes under his belt.
The opening goal was slotted home by James Henry after a neat exchange of passes with David Mooney, and Tom Hateley then fired home from 20 yards.
Mooney made it three with a low shot from inside the penalty box, and strike partner Shane Long soon added another by latching onto a low cross.
The fifth goal came with a low cross-shot from Nicholas Bignall, and South Korean youngster Nam Tae Hee completed the scoring with an impressive solo effort.
Coach Nigel Gibbs said, "It was a really good, solid performance against a youthful and enthusiastic Northampton side.
"We were very pleased with our application and we played some really good stuff at a high tempo.
"It was great to see Doobs back and Marek looked comfortable in his 75 minutes, showing some flashes of brilliance with his passing."
