Coppell: Burnley out for revenge

Posted on: Tue 28 Oct 2008

Royals boss Steve Coppell is wary of Burnley's motivation for revenge when we do battle at Turf Moor in this evening's Coca-Cola Championship clash, kick off 7:45pm.

We played the Clarets on 4th October at Madejski Stadium, with goals from the Hunt brothers and Shane Long giving us a 3-1 victory in front of a crowd of 18,621.

Owen Coyle's side will be looking to put that right in tonight's match, and Coppell cautioned, "The result will be fresh in everyone's mind and they will want revenge.

"I know after the match at our place they felt they were a real factor in the game and they will look to get three points from us when we take them on at their place.

"They see themselves as a team capable of getting into the Premiership next year so it will be a tough task - but that's what this division is all about.

"They have a slightly unusual shape about their team, a few square pegs in round holes, but it seems to work. It will be a hard game but they will give us opportunities. If we show the same desire to go forward as we did when we played QPR on Saturday I certainly won't complain."

We will make a 460-mile round trip to play at Turf Moor, but Steve is completely disinterested in any perceived difficulty in the trip.

"I always look at Rooney and Ronaldo, playing all over Europe in the Champions League and World Cup qualifiers but you never hear them complaining. Being on a bus is not the worst thing in the world - we'll be up for it."

Finally, Steve has replaced both Brynjar Gunnarsson and Jem Karacan with Kalifa Cisse and James Harper during the last three games, and he explained, "We play with width, but a lot of other teams like to have one of their widemen tucked in.

"That means our central two have a lot of chasing to do - and with two options on the bench it gives the possibility of legs and energy at an important time in the game."
