New sponsorship deal agreed
Train and bus operator FirstGroup plc are the new sponsors of Reading Football Club's Soccer Schools across the Berkshire area.
Reading Football Club's Community Trust runs an extensive programme of soccer schools during school holiday periods throughout the year.
The schools, which attract around 3000 youngsters per year, focus on emphasising healthy eating and the importance of fitness at an early age.
The Reading FC soccer schools sponsorship is part of FirstGroup's First for Football programme which involves nine other Football League clubs in the south west region.
Reading FC Chairman John Madejski said, "We are delighted to agree this sponsorship from First Group and thank them for their support.
"I have always been a firm believer that a football club must play a central role as a focal point within its local community, and the scale of our activities within Reading and the Thames Valley has increased exponentially in recent years.
"As a football club we have the potential to enrich and enhance the lives of young people and we should seize that opportunity - FirstGroup's support will help us to do so."
FirstGroup Chief Executive Sir Moir Lockhead said: "We feel it is extremely worthwhile to support Reading FC's Soccer Schools with youngsters from the local community.
"We will be helping thousands of youngsters through football to better understand the importance of fitness, a healthy lifestyle and education."
First for Football is one of a number of sponsorship packages set up by FirstGroup. Examples include the First Monster duathlon - a 120k team-based running and cycling event around Loch Ness each September and a deal with UK School Games where FirstGroup are the official transport provider for the athletics finals.
