Nick Hammond isn't expecting to see much transfer activity in or out of the Royals squad in the January window.

The Club's Director of Football constantly monitors the state of the squad with boss Steve Coppell, and he said, "Steve and I speak every day, things are always evolving but our squad is very capable.

"I can't imagine a massive amount of deals will be done across the board. With financial markets as they are, people will be very careful about investing and it will be reasonably quiet.

"We have our thoughts on things, it will be more reactive than proactive but it's important to cover all the bases.

"We want to keep the squad together and don't want to lose anyone who is a key member of the squad. We might move some who are not playing, and the loan system is working well for us with players getting experience.

"There's a good spirit between the players, staff and everyone in the camp, it bodes well for us and we want to keep that feeling then build on it.

"There's only one player who can potentially leave without our say-so, but otherwise the ball is right in our court."

That possible departure is Stephen Hunt, but Nick reiterated his hopes that the Irish winger will stay.

"In terms of Hunty, his attitude and application has been first class, he has given so much.

"I think it's been a real boost for him to play with his brother, who has been a revelation.

"We're near the top of the table, playing well and we are competitive so there's no way I want to lose anything from that squad."
