No appeal over Bikey red card

Posted on: Wed 26 Nov 2008

Reading Football Club will not be appealing Andre Bikey's red card against Cardiff City due to a lack of evidence.

Bikey was dismissed after half an hour of the game at Ninian Park after referee Peter Walton adjudged that the defender had attempted to punch Michael Chopra in an aerial challenge just inside our half.

Royals boss Steve Coppell told readingfc.co.uk, "We still maintain Bikey's innocence but having reviewed the video evidence available to us, the pictures do not throw any light on what actually happened.

"Whenever you appeal a sending off decision, the onus is on the appealing club to unearth video evidence that fully supports a claim, and it is especially unfortunate that the only alternative angle to the normal TV camera is obscured by a pillar right in the way. [Click here to see more]

"I still feel that nobody in the stadium saw what the referee saw, but without contrary evidence we have no case."

Andre will now miss three games through suspension; the home match with Coventry on Monday, then the away trip to Barnsley and the visit of Blackpool.
