Live updates
2.44pm - The two teams are in and Steve Coppell has made eight changes to his starting eleven! Shane Long, Marek Matejovsky and Adam Federici are the only survivors from the draw with Southampton last Sunday.
Leroy Lita returns from his loan to start up front and Alex Pearce is back to partner Andre Bikey in central defence. Bobby Convey, James Henry, Julian Kelly and Jem Karacan also earn recalls while Graeme Murty starts his first game of the season.
Cardiff meanwhile have made just two changes to the side that started against us on Boxing Day - and both of those are enforced. Wayne Routledge and Michael Chopra both ended their loan spells last week so Peter Whittingham and Ross McCormack step into a very strong line-up.
1 min - The first touch after kick-off is from Graeme Murty who launches it forward. It's good to see the skipper back in action!
6 mins - It's another fiery affair here with both sides looking to attack - but so far neither keeper has been troubled.
11 mins - Murty muscles Parry off the ball and it rolls out for a goal kick. Good defending from the skipper.
12 mins - Reading break now through Convey on the left. He checks back onto his right foot and delivers a low cross that takes a deflection and bobbles into the six yard box. Lita is lurking but Enckelman pounces on it just in time. City were looking for offside there but it never came.
14 mins - Convey now with the ball and he beats one man to scurry just inside the box. He's heading too far left though and when he gets his chot in, it's a half-hearted effort that bounces into Enckelman's side netting.
15 mins - Convey floats a cross from the left into the box looking for Lita. Gabor gyepes has to stretch to get a head to it first and he glances it away from danger.
16 mins - Ross McCormack is found by Parry on the edge of the area. He pulls the trigger from the left corner but Federici is behind it at his near post.
17 mins - At the other end, Long passes it inside to Henry who is scampering into the box from the right. He looks to cross but pulls it behind everyone and into Bobby Convey's path. 12 yards out he winds up to strike it with his left foot but it bobbles up on him and the winger slices it well wide. A good chance.
25 mins - Cardiff break through Gavin Rae, who finds McCormack hugging the right flank. He edges inside and works the space to cross but is fies across the face of goal and Reading can clear.
26 mins - Danger inside the Royals box again as the hosts start to find their feet. A scuffed shot from McCormack is easy for Bikey who taps it back to Federici from yards out. He can't pick it up so the Aussie has to use his quick feet to dribble it away before clearing.
28 mins - City now have a free kick 30 yards out. It's floated to the back post where Bothroyd looks favourite, but Bikey glances it out for a corner. Shouts from the home fans for a hadball are ignored.
35 mins - Lita runs onto a logn ball forward and chests it down. He's outnumbered though and he's looking for a free kick as he seemed to be pulled back. The referee is not obliging.
40 mins - Convey feeds Kelly on the overlap down the left and Kelly crosses dangerously into the box. It's cleared out for a throw on the far side but Reading cross another ball into the box and the ball bounces down on the edge of the six yard box. Enckelman is hesitant and both defenders briefly leave it for him, but before Lita or Long can capitalise Gyepes slides in to hurriedly hack it behind.
42 mins - Reading now have a free kick on the left. Convey looks to swing it in but he doesn't connecwell at all and the front man for cardiff calmly clears it.
45 mins - Murty has to nod it behind and concede a corner. Whittingham delivers it from the right and it's half headed clear. Parry winds up to volley it back goalwards but it is charged down and the teams will go into the break level.
HALF TIME - Fairly even so far, with neither keeper overly troubled. But as we've seen recently, games tend to come alive in the second period.
46 mins - Lita finds Convey down the left as Reading attack. The winger swings in an early cross and Long is all alone only six yards out. He sidefoots a high volley towards goal but it's straight at Enckelman - it hits the keeper and Cardiff survive a huge scare. Aimed anywhere else and that would have been the opener.
52 mins - Convey leads a break from inside his own half and Matejovsky finds Karacan, who stabs it to Long on the edge of the box. He turns Gyepes and is tripped so Reading have a free kick just outside the box. Convey strikes it, over the wall, but Enckelman has read it and he catches it cleanly.
58 mins - Bikey pulls Bothroyd back and Cardiff have a free kick. The ball is floated into the box and Reading storm out of the area looking for a canny offside. The flag isn't raised though and three Cardiff men have time to put it away. McCormack is the man who gets it, nodding past Federici from yards out. Reading are convinced the offside flag should have gone up. A bizarre goal that could keep Cardiff in the hat.
63 mins - Bikey rolls it back for Federici who shapes to clear is first time. It takes a horrendous bobble and Federici completely slices it. He recovers to hoof it clear eventually but before the confusion can be calmed McCormack whips an effort across the face of goal and just wide.
67 mins - Peter Whittingham whips a cross in from the left as Cardiff break and Bikey gets his leg in the way. His outstretched leg can only glance it goalwards though and it skims off the top of the crossbar and over. That could have gone anywhere.
68 mins - From the resulting corner, Gyepes rises high and powers a 10 yard header at goal. It's straight at Federici though who holds onto it well.
69 mins - At the other end, Matejovsky deinks a great ball into the advanced Julian Kelly inside the box. He rifles a first time right footed volley at goal but it flashes high and wide across the box.
70 mins - Reading substitution. Kebe replaced James Henry on the right.
71 mins - A corner from the left isn't cleared and the ball bobbles down for Lita who instinctively proids it goalwards. Somehow City clear it and breathe easy.
74 mins - Reading substitution. Simon Church replaces Bobby Convey. Reading probing but not troubling Enckelman yet.
75 mins - Cardiff substitution. Jay Bothroyd is replaced and Stephen McPhail introduced for the home side.
78 mins - Reading substitution. Gylfi Sigurdsson is on for Karacan now. All we need is a last gasp corner now for Federici to repeat the feat?
83 mins - McCormack scampers forward and re-finds Joe Ledley on the break forward. He is too quick for Murty who slides in to send him a little wide, but the midfielder touches it wide of the onrushing keeper and into the back of the net. That should be that!
85 mins - That late slide might have taken its toll on Murty - he's hobbling about a bit. Coppell has made all his changes now though.
86 mins - Gaps starting to appear now as Parry powers down the left. He cuts it back for Whittingham who shoots but Kelly is across brilliantly to block the shot.
90 mins - Church chips a ball into the box and Lita is there to chest it down, but before he can shoot the whistle has gone for offside. Three minutes of injury time remain.
90(+2) mins - Julian Kelly bundles into the box and through a couple of defenders but after a one two withy Shane Long his cross is easy for Enckelman to collect.
FULL TIME - The Royals are out of the FA Cup and last year's finalists march on. Reading had their chances but couldn't take them - Bobby Convey and Shane Long coming closest. But a failed offside trap allowed Ross McCormack to open the scoring and as Reading chased the game, Ledley added a second.
