Midfield man Gylfi Sigurdsson was delighted to play for the Royals at Cardiff in the FA Cup, and would now consider a loan move to further help his development.

The Iceland under 21 international came on for Jem Karacan in the second half of the game at Ninian Park, and it was his third appearance in a Reading shirt.

He had previously come off the bench in our Carling Cup games with Luton and Stoke this season, and later spent a month's loan at Shrewsbury, scoring his first professional goal.

He said, "I'd been waiting a long time to come on but obviously we would have liked a better result.

"It was a good experience, playing for the first team is always good and I was very happy with that.

"I played a few games on loan this season and it did me the world of good. I think they wanted to keep me for the rest of the season but that was a bit too long.

"Maybe now I can go on loan again, that's probably the best thing because I can play games, perhaps League One.

"There are five midfielders in front of me here, and that just makes you want to train harder.

"It's great to play every week though, and our reserve games here are often only once every couple of weeks. It's good to have the pressure of playing for points."
