Hahnemann injury update

Posted on: Fri 09 Jan 2009

Goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann should be just a few weeks away from a return to full fitness.

He  injured his calf in our home win over Blackpool on 9th December, and is now back in light training.

Steve Coppell is hopeful he will be fully fit around the end of the month, saying, "He's not quite in full training at the moment but we've got him doing his own program of work and we're limiting what he can do.

"It was a big pull in his calf and we don't want to rush it, that muscle is very important to goalkeepers.

"I would say he'll be another two to three weeks from here."

Marcus added, "I've trained this week and I feel pretty good but it's the footwork that's the hard part.

"I'm doing pretty much everything, I'm not quite at full speed but that will come with confidence.

"You can do weights but until you get out there and do the exact thing you do in a game you never know.

"It's about getting your coordination back so I'm building it up slowly. I hope to be back by the end of the month."

Meanwhile, Andre Bikey may require a scan on an ankle injury that has been troubling for a few weeks. Alex Pearce could therefore step up to the bench.

Bikey picked up his fifth yellow card of the season at Cardiff last week but the one-game ban does not take place until the Swansea game on 17th January.

Our only other injury at the moment sees Sam Sodje ruled out long-term following a knee operation.
