Noel: It was a kangaroo!

Posted on: Wed 14 Jan 2009

Royals striker Noel Hunt has revealed that his bizarre goal celebration against Watford was a kangaroo impression in honour of Adam Federici's father!

Noel jumped for joy after scoring the second goal in our 4-0 win on Friday evening, and it was intended to look like a kangaroo - but his mimicry perhaps left a little to be desired!

He said, "Fedders and I are neighbours, and his dad's been over from Australia recently, he's mad and funny.

"We had some banter and he said if I scored I had to do a kangaroo so that's what it was all about.

"I said after the match it wasn't my best game but if you can go through a little patch and still be scoring it's not so bad. I know I'll always sniff out a chance in a game and after that it's up to me to put it away.

"The strikers are scoring and goals are what we need, it's the only way to win! I don't care who scores, if it's me, Shane, Leroy or Feds coming up for one again!

"Shane worked hard and got his goal down at Southampton, then Leroy got himself a great finish on Friday night. The standard here is high."

Noel knows we will be in for a tough game when we travel to Swansea this weekend, and we face a tenth-placed City side who are six points off the play-offs.

Roberto Martinez's men have only lost once at home this season, and that loss to Birmingham was their last League defeat - some nine games ago.

"They're a good side and like to play it on the ground. They're no mugs and they've not lost many games. If you think about it, this is one of the hardest away trips in the league," Noel said.

"Thomas Butler is down there and he's a good mate of mine, we lived together for six months when he was at Dunfermline. I've not seen him since the last game and hopefully we can win again!"

Finally, Hunt says manager Steve Coppell has been keeping the players level headed, despite seeing us close the gap at the top to just four points.

"The gaffer is always telling us we can't get too far ahead of ourselves. The next game is always the biggest one.

"I don't think I've ever seen him excited, but I've heard that he did throw his coat into the stand when he got promoted a few years back!

"To be fair he's not said a single thing wrong in the time I've been here, he's spot on. He's massive at keeping our feet on the ground."
