Boss Steve Coppell is delighted that striker Leroy Lita wants to stay at Reading.

Lita this week reaffirmed his commitment to the cause in light of an approach from fellow Championship team Sheffield United.

Steve has been hugely impressed with the 24-year-old since he came back from a loan at Norwich, and he found the net in our 4-0 win over Watford on Friday.

Steve said, "He has set the marker with the way he's been training, it's been terrific.

"We had a bid and I'm more than happy for Leroy to stay and compete for a place.

"He's under contract to the summer and I can't think any further than that.

"Obviously we're waiting to see what happens with our own future, we're determined to be successful.

"What happens at the end of his contract depends on a lot of things. Like a lot of clubs we've got a fair few players out of contract, it's not just Leroy."

Steve declined the opportunity to talk about specific transfer targets, but admitted, "We've got a few things in mind, although we're not close to anything.

"Again, we've no comment on individual players, I don't want to do business like that. We're striving to strengthen but I won't mention individuals."

Finally, Steve believes Manchester City's proposed £100m bid for Kaka is out of touch with the rest of the world at the moment.

He said, "The man in the street would say football has been mad for some time.

"You can't justify the fees and the wages, it seems the ultimate contradiction at the moment.

"It must be galling to people who have just lost their job - but football has never been logical."
