Kelly admits debut goosebumps

Posted on: Thu 29 Jan 2009

Julian Kelly admits he had goosebumps on his full league debut for the Royals as we defeated Wolves 1-0.

Kelly, 19, was starting his first game at Championship level, and got more comfortable as the match went on.

He helped a much-changed back four keep a clean sheet against the joint top scorers in the country, and it was a great evening for our Academy graduate.

He said, "The crowd were great, really loud and it helped me a lot. It was giving me goosebumps and now I can understand how the home advantage really helps us.

"Coming through from the Academy and being part of things in the first team now is just brilliant.

"The hardest thing before the game was just waiting all day sitting at home and getting ready for it to come! I watched a couple of films, I'd been up since half eight in the morning which is well early for a matchday!

"The game was just the best. The other lads helped me out with their experience at the back.

"We've taken six points off Wolves and hopefully we can take advantage by going on a run.

"For me, hopefully now we can see what the manager does with the team for QPR on Saturday."
