Rosenior: fans were unbelievable

Posted on: Wed 18 Mar 2009

Liam Rosenior has paid homage to the 754 Reading fans who made the long journey north to Doncaster on Tuesday evening, and hopes the 1-0 victory goes some way to showing our appreciation for the fans' dedication.

The travelling supporters witnessed a very good display from Steve Coppell's team, rounded off by a cracking goal from Dave Kitson with only eight minutes remaining.

Liam said afterwards, "The fans were unbelievable. They've come all this way, especially with how money is at the moment. We wanted to show our appreciation and the best way to do that is with a win and hopefully Premier League football at the end of the season."

After an indifferent run of home results, Liam was delighted to pick up three points on our travels. "Maybe the home form had become a bit of a burden and it was nice to have a change of scenery. This win has been a long time coming.

"We had a little talk on Monday between ourselves. We know we've got what it takes, we've got players who are good enough and players who know how to do it. It's a case of going out there and putting it into practice.

"We really kept the ball well, we've not been doing that so much recently and I thought the passing was good. With 20 minutes to go we were saying on the pitch that the goal would come. Kits' strike was something special and that's why he's such a good player and we're happy he's back.

"The gaffer said at half time it was all about our mentality. We were on top from start to finish, but we've been like that before and it's not gone in. We stayed strong, we were positive and the body language was brilliant. We changed formation and the willingness to get on the ball was great.

"Sometimes we've gone a bit too direct too early in recent games. We're good players and if we take care of our passing it will work. The top teams like United and Chelsea are so good because they always want the ball. If we do that in this league we'll be fine. The manager said to me before the match about getting forward more and it's big strength of my game so I tried to do that.

"Bikey came in and did great, Pearcey was unlucky to miss out and now we've got to build on this performance and keep it up for when we go to Palace on Saturday."
