Leroy Lita scored two goals, including a long range free-kick, as our reserves beat Southampton 4-0 to reach the next stage of the Totesport.com Combination Cup. Sam Sodje and skipper Alex Pearce were also on target.
Glen Little got 90 minutes under his belt in this encounter at Aldershot's Recreation Ground, while Scott Golbourne also played the full game after returning from a loan at Oldham.
Lita opened the scoring with just a few minutes gone, powering in a free kick from 25 yards out off the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net.
Pearce, a former Saints loanee, then made it 2-0 before the break, powering home a header from Dan Harding's corner.
Lita's next finish was the third goal and came after the interval, Sodje then putting home a diving header with a couple of minutes to go, rounding off the scoring.
Coach Nigel Gibbs told readingfc.co.uk, "All in all it was very good, we scored four goals and we were solid at the back as well. We deserved to win and it was good for the boys.
"Leroy got us off to a good start very early with a fantastic free kick from 25 yards off the underside of a bar.
"Then next Alex Pearce got in a towering header from Dan Harding's whipped corner.
"Early on after the break Leroy got an instinctive finish that the keeper got a hand to.
"Then right at the end good play from Glen Little and Tom Hateley saw Julian Kelly get in a cross at pace and Sodje got there with a diving header for 4-0.
"We played with Abdulai in behind Leroy and he got lots of ball, created lots of chances and I was pleased for him.
"Glen got 90 minutes and made his contribution unscathed. Southampton hardly had many shots, the boys at the back were comfortable and each of the centre halves got a goal."
