Posted on: Wed 08 Apr 2009

Leroy Lita scored four as the reserves trounced QPR 5-0 at Aldershot's Recreation Ground on Wednesday afternoon.

Jem Karacan was our other scorer as the second string put Rangers to the sword and remained unbeaten this season.

Brian McDermott's reserves are now very close to the Totesport.com Combination title after this win, and striker Lita has aided the team's bid for title glory by helping himself to 12 goals in the last five games.

Young duo James Rowe and Jacob Walcott made their first appearances at reserve team level as substitutes, rounding off an excellent afternoon all round.

Reading: McCarthy; Spence, Harding (Rowe 85), Golbourne, Pearce (c), Karacan (Walcott 70), Hateley, Taylor, Frewen; Baggie, Lita

QPR actually caused plenty of problems early on, and with 40 minutes gone it was still 0-0, but Lita soon pounced on a defensive mix-up to open the scoring.

The goals soon began to flow, and Karacan made it 2-0 just after half time by rounding off an excellent team move involving our Welsh u21 international midfielder Jake Taylor, who was making his first start for our reserve team.

By the 55th minute Lita had his second, Abdulai Baggie picking up a quick throw and releasing Lita, who turned his man and slotted home across the keeper.

The fourth goal was created by sub Walcott down the left, and his pull-back saw Lita turn and shoot for his hat-trick.

Finally Baggie created another with a quick free kick, Leroy twisting and finishing for 5-0 and his fourth of the afternoon.

Coach Nigel Gibbs said, "We were actually a little slow getting going, QPR were lively up front in the first 25 but once we settled we got on top of the game.

"Leroy got four goals and that really capped the performance. Jem scored from a fantastic move that went all the way from back to front and we really played some good stuff to earn the victory."
