Match preview: Royals vs Norwich

Posted on: Mon 27 Apr 2009

The Royals go to Norwich tonight, kick off 7:45pm, and the Club's official website readingfc.co.uk has a full match preview ahead of this vital Championship fixture.

Team news - Reading
Steve Coppell is without Noel Hunt, and the striker is unlikely to play again this season after fracturing a bone in his foot during our recent draw with Barnsley.

Kevin Doyle could be back from a knee problem, but will have to make do with a place on the bench.

Chris Armstrong could be back in contention, but Steve Coppell may decide to stick with Dan Harding in any case. Julian Kelly is also set to be fit, but Liam Rosenior will almost certainly keep his place at right back.

James Harper remains sidelined, while former Norwich loanee Leroy Lita is out after an ankle operation.

Graeme Murty played 45 minutes for the reserves last week, and Ivar Ingimarsson is a long-term absentee.

Team news - Norwich
The Canaries will be without striker David Mooney, who is on loan from Reading and has scored three goals in eight games for Bryan Gunn's side.

Cody McDonald, a 22-year-old who was signed from non-League this season and gave up his job as a scaffolder, could start in Mooney's place, while ex-Reading man Jamie Cureton is also in contention for a starting role.

Dangerous winger Lee Croft limped out of their last game, a 3-2 defeat away to rivals Ipswich, and he is rated 50-50.

Adam Drury is doubtful because of illness, while Adrian Leijer could overcome a foot problem to play.

Form - Reading
The Royals are unbeaten in eight away games, stretching way back to the 2-0 loss at Swansea in January.

Form - Norwich
Bryan Gunn's side have won one in their last five games - although before that they went on a good run with three wins out of four.

At home they have won three out of their last seven games, beating Cardiff, Plymouth and Watford but losing to Bristol City, Coventry and Sheff Wed.

Ticket news
Seats in the away end are on sale at Carrow Road this evening. 440 tickets have been sold in advance.

Manager's thoughts - Reading
Steve Coppell: "Like I always say, we'll be approaching the game to win. No matter what happens, your results at the end of a season are important for your momentum."

Manager's thoughts - Norwich
Bryan Gunn: "We need to be looking to go forward on as many occasions as we can, and threaten Reading. Defensively, we also need to be mindful that they have got some very good strikers who have been quite prolific this season. Our players will have to be at the top of their game, and looking back they have been this season in these sort of games.
