Reading's reserves are Totesport.com Combination League Champions after a 4-1 win at Millwall this afternoon. Abdulai Baggie got two, while Brynjar Gunnarsson and Andrew White also scored to seal victory.
Brian McDermott's team have only lost two games all season, and this league triumph marks a double achievement for our reserves, who are also in the final of the Totesport.com Combination Cup.
Midfielder Jake Taylor was denied an early goal by Preston Edwards' outstanding save, and we were on top but had to wait until just before the interval to break the deadlock, Baggie clipping home well with the outside of his right foot.
Baggie quickly doubled the lead just after half time, then midfield man Brynjar Gunnarsson turned home a third from Australian winger Oliver Bozanic's low cross.
England youth international forward Baggie was involved again in our final goal, creating a chance for sub Andrew White to get his first for the reserves.
Kiernan Hughes-Mason got a consolation for the hosts but we took three points that sealed the championship.
Club captain Graeme Murty played his first full 90 minutes since February, while Bozanic and Hal Robson-Kanu lined up after returning from recent loan spells.
Reading: Federici; Murty, Kelly, Kamdjo, Pearce; Gunnarsson, Matejovsky, Taylor, Bozanic; Baggie, Robson-Kanu (White 62)
Subs: Andersen, Spence, Rowe, Walcott
Coach Nigel Gibbs told readingfc.co.uk, "Winning the league is great for all of the players who have played.
"Of course the reserve team is predominantly based on developing players and improving fitness, but it's important to have good habits and football is about winning.
"This is especially good for the youngsters, and every player deserves full credit for their contribution."
