Royals boss Steve Coppell says there can be no questioning Neil Warnock's desire to win this weekend.
Warnock's Crystal Palace's host his old team Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon, and if the Eagles get any kind of positive result against the Blades at Selhurst Park, Reading will be promoted if they beat Birmingham at home.
Warnock is a life-long United fan, but Steve laughed off any suggestions that Neil will not want his Palace team to win.
Coppell said, "You can always depend on the integrity of this league and I always depend on it.
"I know Neil felt hard done by in the Premiership when other teams didn't field their strongest team in critical games and he ended up relegated, he's very mindful of that.
"We are depending on another result, we can't do anything about it so we just concentrate on ourselves.
"It's a no-lose situation. It's marginally more than a dog's chance but we're happy to be here and we've got the back-up of the play-offs if it proves necessary.
"Whatever happens, if we go into the play-offs with three victories it's a good sign. It's not a guarantee but a good sign and it could be important."
Steve has no concerns over the Madejski Stadium pitch, with the Club having invested in lighting rigs and germination sheets to help accelerate growth. "Bruce the groundsman has been working hard, the weather has been perfect and I expect it to be much-improved."
The game is completely sold out.
