Hamer rated division's best

Posted on: Fri 22 May 2009

Reading goalkeeper Ben Hamer has won the Puma Golden Glove award for League Two after keeping the highest number of clean sheets in the division this season.

21-year-old Hamer spent the season on loan at Brentford, and helped the Bees to win the League Two title.

He kept 20 clean sheets in 45 League appearances, and only missed one League game because of suspension.

Ben has been offered a new contract by Reading this summer with a view to extending his time with the Club.

He has enjoyed good experience over the past three seasons, spending 2006/7 at Crawley and picking up their player of the season award. In 2007/8 he played 20 games for Brentford in two loan spells, then this season he played 49 games in all competitions for Andy Scott's side.

Alan Bennett, who has now left Reading, also contributed heavily to Brentford's success, playing in 44 League games and scoring as they sealed the title at Darlington.
