Armstrong thanks supporters

Posted on: Fri 22 May 2009

Congratulations on being player of the season, what does it mean to you?
Yes obviously it means a lot, it is the first time I have won anything like that!

Many people come to the club wanting to do well, but to have a good first season and actually win the award, you really have to step up?
Yes, like you said when I came here I just wanted to do well, do a good job and try and help out the team. So to win an award as well is a bonus but to be recognised by the fans is very important to me.

When you came in you replaced Nicky Shorey, to have been voted player of the year after he has gone, does that add to it?
I knew it would be a tough job, he has great qualities and brought a lot to this team. I just wanted to come here and do things my own way, I'm a different style of player to him and I just wanted to do a good job for the team.

Did you win it with Sheffield?
I won young player of the year but never this, so it's a great reward and I'm very grateful.

The vote was a landslide as well!
Really?! I didn't know that.

It's the people who pay to watch you isn't it?
Yes exactly, so if you're pleasing them it's one of the main things. I am delighted with the award and want to thank the fans.

How is the injury?
Yes it's coming along. I just need to get myself right and get fit, that's the focus for me and then obviously I will be ready for next season.

Is it the old injury again or is it a fresh one?
It is just the old one, flaring up a little bit and its just something I have got to take care of.

What's the best thing for that? Obviously you have come through it before?
It's just a bit of everything, a bit of rehabilitation work and just seeing how it goes and hopefully take it from there.
