Gunnarsson is called up
Royals midfield man Brynjar Gunnarsson has been called up by Iceland for two upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The Iceland FA have informed the Royals that Brynjar should report to them on Tuesday of next week, ahead of a home game with Holland on Saturday 6th June.
Olafur Johannesson's side then travel to Macedonia for another qualifying game on Wednesday 10th June.
Gunnarsson and his countrymen only have four points from five games so far, but they still remain third in their five-team group and have a chance to sneak second place. They would therefore have a decent chance to go for a play-off berth for the chance to make South Africa next summer.
Brynjar, 33, is out of contract at the moment, but has been offered a new deal by the Club this summer.
The weekend of 6th June could prove pivotal in other Reading players; bid for World Cup glory, with Ireland away to close rivals Bulgaria. Shane Long and Stephen Hunt are in the squad, with Kevin Doyle set to miss out because of injury.
Simon Church could be in the Wales squad for their game with Azerbaijan, depending on how the squad is trimmed following a friendly with Estonia. Jimmy Kebe's Mali take on Ghana.
Marek Matejovsky's Czech Republic are not in action until September, and they are currently without a manager.
