Chief Executive Nigel Howe says that Icelandic midfield man Brynjar Gunnarsson can act as one of the old heads in a young team next season.
The 33-year-old has been offered a new contract to stay at Madejski Stadium, and Howe believes the one-time Iceland skipper can play an important role under a new manager.
Brynjar has recently admitted he would like to get into coaching at some point in his career, and Nigel is sure that we can use his extensive knowledge to our benefit.
Howe told readingfc.co.uk, "Everyone knows we have a strong bunch of young players who will feature next year, but they need to be surrounded by experience.
"We still need some experienced players here, Brynjar is one of them and along with his good friend Ivar Ingimarsson they can add a bit of stabillity.
"We will need to continue that next year."
Gunnarsson was one of four players offered a new contract, along with Ben Hamer, Oliver Bozanic and Scott Davies.
Midfielder Davies has already signed his new terms which tie him to the Club until the summer of 2011.
