Chief Scout Brian McDermott has just returned from Sweden, having taking in the group stages of the UEFA Under 21 Championship.

McDermott was on a fact-finding mission as the continent's best young talent went head-to-head.

He told readingfc.co.uk, "It was a good trip, there were countless scouts there from all over the world.

"All the Premier League teams had scouts there, and not too many from the Championship were there.

"Obviously we know a lot of the players already, and some took the eye but they are asking fortunes.

"I watched Sweden against Belarus, Marcus Berg got a hat-trick and his price went from nothing to £10million straight away! That's what happens in tournaments.

"He's with Gronigen at the moment and if he keeps going and doing really well I'd imagine he would go.

"A lot of the players were already well-known, the Spanish boys of course.

"Serbia were not as good this time around, they had Ivanovic last time and so on.

"All in all it was good to go, I saw lots of games and made lots of contact with Premier League and foreign scouts."
