New roles for McDermott & Gibbs
Posted on: Fri 03 Jul 2009
New manager Brendan Rodgers is reorganising his first team backroom staff, giving new roles to both Brian McDermott and Nigel Gibbs.
Brian is joining Brendan's technical team, along with Assistant Manager Dean Austin and Football Consultant Frank Lampard Sr.
Brian is being given the responsibility to focus on scouting our upcoming opposition, meaning Nigel will manage our reserve team.
Brendan told our online TV station Reading World, "I am making some adaptations. Brian McDermott has done a great job as Chief Scout and Reserve Team Manager, and he will now become a member of my technical team with special responsibility for our opponents. He will look at them in detail and present that to our players.
"You have to understand your opponents and how they operate, and Brian has great experience at this level and above. Now he has his focus on the first team, while still keeping his finger on the pulse for recruitment with Nick, who also does a very good job.
"Nigel Gibbs will then take sole control of the reserve team. The development group is very, very important and this allows him freedom in the role. When young players come from the reserve group into the first team they will understand how I work.
"The staff are a really exciting group and I am looking forward to the beginning of this new cycle."
Also joining from Watford this summer is new Football Physiologist Karl Halabi.
An in-depth eight minute interview with Brendan is live on Reading World now as he discusses his transfer plans, pre-season, his new staff and much more. See our free preview clip and remember it only costs £4.99 for full access until 20th August.
