Bozanic signs new contract

Posted on: Tue 07 Jul 2009
Young midfielder Oliver Bozanic has signed a new one-year contract with the Club.

The Australian youth international was offered a new deal earlier in the summer, and terms were quickly finalised as soon as he returned for pre-season training.

Bozanic, 20, joined the Royals in January 2007 from Central Coast Mariners in his homeland, and has been on the bench for our first team in the Carling Cup.

He spent a successful loan spell at Woking last season, and will now form part of new manager Brendan Rodgers' first team squad.

Oliver told readingfc.co.uk, "This new contract is really great, I am very excited, especially with a new manager coming in. These are exciting times and I can't wait for the season to start.

"We all met him the new manager on Monday, he's a very nice manager, very straightforward and I'm excited to work with him.

"Hopefully I will be able to get a chance and he seems like a more technical manager."

Oliver, whose preferred position is central midfield, has enjoyed a productive summer after being away with Australia's under 20s.

He said, "We had two tournaments in Holland, we finished third in the first one and then won the second. We've got the under 20s World Cup in September so it was good preparation."

Last season was not all plain sailing though, and he had to battle off glandular fever this time last year.

"The start of last season was tough, I was out for six or seven months but then got on the bench for the Carling Cup game at Stoke. Then I went out on loan to Woking, that was good experience and I hope I can take that into the season."

Meanwhile, Academy players Mitchell Bryant and Radoslav Vasilev has signed pre-agreed professional contracts.
