Brendan what are your thoughts on the team's style and your formation?
For me I've always said that I will look at changing the identity of the team but the system for me is always irrelevant, it's more the style and that will always be creative. It will be offensive, but with discipline. I looked at a stat that said over the past five seasons in the Championship the teams that have gone up are the teams that have a higher goals scored to a goals conceded ratio.

Of course you want to keep clean sheets and you have to be defensively strong, but you won't win games if you don't score goals. Sometimes we may have to concede that we might lose a goal. I know I'm a manager that takes a risk because in some cases you may have to take a risk to win a game.

Do you think that Reading supporters will see a different style of football to the one that they saw in the last season?
Well when I went to Watford they had a style of football...it's about getting the winning formula and that's what I've learnt very quickly at every club I've been at. Supporters like to see their team winning, but I like the team to have an identity which is about playing passing football, being creative and having good organisation and professionalism.

Is there a certain formation which you prefer to use?
I just like the team to be flexible. 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2 diamond. I like the players to have creativity. I feel that some of the best coaches in the world that I've worked with are very much along the line of my thinking - when your team has the ball it is very difficult to see the formation because of the constant mobility of the movement.

The other team should really only see your formation when you're defending and that's what the best teams in the world do. It's hard to identify sometimes what some of the best teams are playing, but when they haven't got the ball and they're defending, the organisation is good.

For me, I've been renowned for playing 4-3-3 offensively and people sometimes say that there's only one striker up there when there are actually three. So some teams will look to have set out a 4-3-3 when actually they're playing 4-5-1. I prefer mine to be three offensive players, attacking midfield players so rather than having two up, I have three up. Sometimes there's one up and one behind. And sometimes it's one up there and two in behind which is your diamond.
