Manager Brendan Rodgers was pleased with his team's performance as they secured a 5-1 friendly victory over Didcot Town in the new boss' first game in charge.
Gylfi Sigurdsson, Nicholas Bignall, James Henry, James Harper and Simon Church got their names on the scoresheet as the Royals eased themselves into their pre-season fixture list in style.
2,100 supporters saw an enjoyable match, and with Brendan completely changing his team at half time every available squad member got playing time under his belt.
Rodgers said, "We have only been together a week and I thought our possession and creation of chances was very good. We scored five goals and it could have had more. There was good freedom in the team and after only one week I am very pleased.
"We played with two different structures, we used a diamond in the first half and you have to pass and move with that system. We did it well, created chances and scored goals.
"The second half was 4-3-3, there was a bit more space to open it up, different types of players and it showed up well."
Stephen Hunt's 45 minutes were spent at left back, and Rodgers said, "It's a situation where obviously Chris Armstrong is coming back from injury and he was not going to play 90 minutes.
"Stephen Hunt is a multifunctional player and can play all over the pitch. He's got great ambition for the team to do well whenever he plays and he works hard with quality, he's excellent."
Finally, Rodgers gave the captain's armband to Brynjar Gunnarsson in the first half before Alex Pearce took over.
Brendan said, "Bryn has been terrific since I came in. He's a real good influence, like a number of players. Alex is a young man who will be a good leader for the future but the captaincy will be something I take a close look at before I name anyone."
