James Henry got his first feel for the Royals' new European style of play this week, and the young winger is certain Brendan Rodgers' approach bodes well for the future.

James lined up as one of three forwards in a 4-3-3 during the second half of our pre-season friendly at Didcot Town, and got his name on the scoresheet in a 5-1 win.

The 20-year-old said, "It feels really good to get the cobwebs off and try to impose the new style of football we're trying to play. You could see that the boys are buzzing to be back and we're all fighting for our places.

"I'm sure the fans could see the style of football we're trying to play, it's more of a European style and we're coping well.

"It was more of a 4-3-3 so it gave me more licence to stay forward. That is better and I really enjoyed it, I was on the ball more than normal, better decisions and better passes so the whole team played really well.

"Everybody is doing really well in training, trying to get into the first team and hopefully this is my season."
