Rodgers begins with 483 passes

Posted on: Wed 12 Aug 2009
The Royals' performance against Nottingham Forest was met with delight by boss Brendan Rodgers after taking time to reflect and analyse the 0-0 home draw.

"It confirms what I thought of the game. There is no doubt we will be a possession team this season," Brendan said.

"Looking at the number of passes made, Swansea made 470 passes in a game last season, and on Saturday we made 483. If people are judging us on the type of team that we will be, it will probably be along that sort of line.

"I think there were many aspects of the game I was really pleased with. I always want to control and dominate the game because I feel you will always have the possibility to create, so I thought that part of our game was good.

"We got from our third of the pitch into their third quite easily. A team that has good possession are normally good on the ball because they are also good without the ball, so we have been focusing on the transition of our game. When we lose the ball we want to get the ball back as quick as possible, and we did that on Saturday.

"The bit that will improve - and has to improve - is the scoring of goals. We had the chances and we didn't take them, but I felt happy that our young players showed great composure and bravery, while our more experienced players were also very good.

"Even so, 483 passes is a great number of passes in a game and also great for our confidence. There were loads of positives to take from the game on Saturday, and we will move on from there."
