Nicholas Bignall was one of five players making full debuts against Burton Albion this evening...and one of three full debutants to score in a comfortable 5-1 win.
"I couldn't have wished for more," he said after scoring two first half goals to gift Reading a 3-0 lead after just ten minutes.
"Well I could have wished for a hat-trick," he cheekily added. "But two goals on my debut - it's got to be good.
"I nearly got the hat-trick as well, but all in all it was a very good day for me."
With two goals under his belt, the 19-year-old frontman was replaced by Noel Hunt on the hour - but he couldn't be disappointed after such a memorable Royals bow.
"I've got a few relatives here - I'ma local lad so I've got plenty of support round the area. And tonight was all good.
"I was told beforehand that I was only going to get an hour," he explained.
"I had a little injury in pre-season so they wanted to get me some game time but not the full ninety minutes.
"The Carling Cup is a chance for us players on the fringe to get a good game in.
"And we're still in the competition so that can only mean more games.
"If you keep pushing, you never now. In this team, you might get a chance.
"There are a few coming through from the youth set-up and even more showing promise in the Academy - so it all looks good."
