Fed: Two of my best-ever saves

Posted on: Wed 19 Aug 2009
Goalkeeper Adam Federici believes he made two of the best saves in his career in the 0-0 draw at Swansea - and his first half penalty save wasn't even one of them!

Federici saved Mark Gower's 24th minute penalty, and then did even better in the second half to deny Steven Dobbie with a brilliant low save with his left hand (surprisingly given as a goal kick), then he somehow kept out Alan Tate's point blank header, even though the defender was offside.

He said, "The two in the second half were two of the best saves I've made in my career - I just couldn't believe he gave a goal kick for one of them!

"For the penalty I went from his body shape, I tried to sense where he was going and thankfully I got it right. It was my first penalty save in the league for Reading and hopefully the last for a while, two penalties in two games is too much!

"It was a tough game, every time we come down here it's a battle. It was a good result, they are a good team. We've not really had problems defensively, we just lack a bit of luck down the other end and hopefully that will change."

Boss Brendan Rodgers was delighted with his number one, saying, "Adam's been the number two to Marcus for some time and now he has his opportunity. I think you saw tonight that at this level he's a very competent goalkeeper.

"He made a good save from the penalty, and another later on was world class; it would have been offside but he didn't know that. His distribution is strong, he's an outstanding goalkeeper."
