Gylfi Sigurdsson made his full League debut against Sheffield United at the weekend, and put in an impressive performance against the Blades. After the game, he spoke to the press about the biggest day of his career so far.
Gylfi your thoughts on the game?
We had a few chances to score but that's the way it is at the moment - we are not scoring enough goals. We've been playing pretty good teams like Swansea away, Newcastle away and obviously Sheffield United - all teams that are going to be up there this year - and I think it will come, it's only a matter of time before the goals start coming in. We just need to keep picking up points for now.
You got very close yourself to scoring.
Yeah, I had one shot and it's hit the post so I was unlucky.
You were involved in the goal as well.
Yeah, Matt did very well to get up and head it in, so all credit to him really.
What's the mood like in the dressing room?
Obviously we've just lost so everyone's a bit down, but we'll get back on it and start training hard. We're playing good football but it's just a matter of time before the goals start coming and we'll be up and running
Where do you see the problems - is it that final third?
Sometimes that just happens but as I said, we've been playing good teams that are going to be up there this year, but it's just being ruthless in front of goal and creating a few more chances and it will come.
Do you see yourself having a run in the league?
Obviously we lost today, so I don't know. Hopefully I'll be in there on Saturday. What I want is to be playing week in week out.
Do you feel it's coming as a team - that was probably the best team performance in the league this season and yet you've lost 3-1. You conceded goals at the wrong times really, didn't you?
Yeah, it was a few scrappy goals that we conceded - one from a throw in and then one back post - which shouldn't really have happened, but I'm sure the boys will get back on and next week we'll get three points.
Barnsley in the cup on Tuesday night, are you hoping to keep your place in the cup team?
Obviously I want to play every game, so hopefully I'll be involved on Tuesday and hopefully I'll be involved next Saturday at Barnsley as well.
What has the manager said to the guys?
Just keep going, it will come. It's only a matter of time because we're working hard in training and we're playing good football. When it comes, we just need to take our chances.
Is there a lot to re-learn and a lot of changes with the new manager?
It's a bit different from the way we played last year and we've got a young team now, so we're doing everything we can in training and we're working hard. It will come.
Before your shot hit the post - did you think it was going in?
I did actually. I thought it was going in so I started celebrating and it hit the post - so I'm not too happy about that.
How did you enjoy your full league debut for Reading?
Yeah, it was really good - really enjoyed it - apart from the result obviously.
A different pace?
Yeah a little bit but when you're training with the players we've got here, the tempo is high in training.
When was the first time you knew you were in the team?
On Friday, before training yesterday, was when he announced the team.
Was it a nervous 24 hours for you?
Not really, just more excited, because I've been waiting for a long time.
Did you sleep alright?
Yeah I got a good sleep last night.
Did your family watch the game at home?
My dad came over this morning to watch the game - he came over from Iceland. To be fair he booked it last Wednesday, so it was good timing for him to come over.
