Jay Tabb spoke to the press after Saturday's game, and he believes a couple of victories in our back-to-back games with Barnsley will go a long way to .
Jay your thoughts on the game, Sheffield United ?
We obviously got the early goal and created quite a bit going forward - we looked really good and we were playing high up the pitch. Then they got a goal right on half-time - it's a horrible one to concede at that kind of time - that set us back a little bit. Even at half-time the manager said 'look you've been the better side so just keep that going and we should beat them second half', but for some reason it didn't quite click into gear in the second half - not too sure why. It's disappointing because without doing too much wrong we've lost 3-1 at home, and it seems a bit unfair really. It's all about confidence - more than any other sport really - if you're playing with confidence then it's a lot easier. After getting the first goal today, I thought that was going to kick-start us and it did in a way, but that goal just before half-time went and scuppered it.
Bet it was good to get that goal because you've been waiting a while haven't you?
Yeah definitely it was nice to get a goal. It was a great ball in from Gylfi, who I thought had an amazing debut - his delivery from set pieces and his general play was class - and it was nice for Matt Mills on his home league debut, to score as well. Then after that we created a lot - I had a chance I should have scored myself. We had quite a lot going forward, some good balls in the box, the crowd were behind us and it was buzzing and it felt good. But that goal just before half-time knocked us a bit.
What's the mood like in the dressing room at the moment?
We're down obviously because no-one likes losing games. I was just saying to Shane Long that we're here to win games and that's what we want to do. So everyone's a bit down but there's four games gone in the season, we have had a slow start - there's no hiding that - but it can all change. We've got Barnsley twice now; if we can get two wins against them - get through to the next round of the cup and then beat them in the league on Saturday - then you go into the international break with high spirits and reassess the situation, then go again in a couple of weeks. But it's important that we go up to Barnsley and win there.
Does it seem like there's quite a big difference at the club, compare to when you joined in January?
Yeah it's definitely a big change around but that's not in a bad way, it's in a good way. We've got a totally different way of playing football now, there's a lot of youngsters in the side and it's a kind of transition period for the club. We are going to get better and better and that's what we know as players - it's just a bit frustrating that it's not happening straight away, but it will happen.
Is it difficult when a new manager comes in with a new way of playing, and a changeover in players as well?
Yeah of course it is, it's a whole change to the way you play football. Everything's changed really but that's part of the game. Teams have new managers coming in and play different ways all the time - we've got to learn to adjust to that and when we do it all clicks and we'll be good and get some wins under our belt, so we're going to be happy again.
When you joined the club in January - obviously you had the impression of helping the team up and playing in the Premier League - is that something that you still believe you can do?
Oh of course yeah. We spoke about it over the summer as a squad; we set our goals and our goal is to get promoted this season. People might look at it now and say we've had a bad start and that's not going to happen, but that's a load of rubbish - you can win three on the bounce and you're right back at the top of the table again. It's four games gone, none of us are panicking so we'll keep working hard in training - the manager's been here not too long now and each training session he's teaching us what he wants us to do and it's getting better all the time. Today is a little blip but unfortunately it didn't happen after the first half so it's a bit of a shock, but that's the good thing about football - we'll be in training tomorrow early, we'll get it out of our system and we'll go again Tuesday and Saturday.
