Brendan revels in first League win

Posted on: Wed 02 Sep 2009
Brendan Rodgers was absolutely delighted after seeing his team pick up their first League victory, and praised the players' response to going a goal behind.

He said after our 3-1 victory at Barnsley, "The players showed a lot of character and resilience, and I thought the response to going behind was outstanding.

"The players continued to believe, we've had a difficult fixture list but we've put in some real good work.

"I'm very pleased for the players, the staff and supporters. Everybody has been working their socks off, and I've always said that when you do that you get your rewards.

"I thought we were excellent. The players have been fantastic since I came on board, and it was only a matter of time before we got that first win.

"I thought we started quite brightly, like we have in every game this season. We were disappointed to go behind, it was a good set piece and it's important we learn from that. But, we went on to dominate and control the game.

"Everybody played well today. The structure of the team was very good, we scored three goals and could have had more.

"I felt this was the last day of our pre-season and it was very good. There has been a lot of optimism over the summer, which was great. The players have worked well, the fans have been supportive and I had a good night at the fans' forum in midweek. Now we have won this game we go into the international break well."
