Rodgers wants home win for the fans

Posted on: Mon 14 Sep 2009

Royals boss Brendan Rodgers wants to repay Reading supporters' faith by securing a home win for them.

The Royals are without a home League win since the end of January, and the boss wants to pay back our loyal fans.

He said, "I feel for the supporters and I didn't realise until Friday that it's been so long since they saw a win at home. It's incredible. As much as we want to do it for the group, we want to do it for the supporters as well.

"You go to many grounds and with a run like that, I think it's back to January, it shows you the quality of supporters here. Not every group of supporters would be as supportive. We want to do it for the club, the group and the supporters and we will get there.

"I said to the players before Saturday's game that I didn't realise the length of the home record. It's not a concern but we wanted to put it to bed for the supporters. They've been coming here a long time and haven't seen their team win.

"The supporters have been really loyal, they have given everything and it's a long time without a win here. We must take the responsibility to win here.

"It's a different group of players, but it was a big reason for not going up last year. We've kept clean sheets against Forest and Doncaster and not scored, and for a big part of the Sheffield United game we did well.

"Teams come here and respect you as a group, they sit deeper and it's harder to create. We're looking to develop our game because when teams block spaces you have to be clever enough to find them. Goals are hard to come by in this league and for some teams it's easier to play away from home.

"The fans have been brilliant because at many grounds you wouldn't quite get the same support as we've had here. They've been excellent and it will come for them - let's hope on Wednesday.

"The supporters know we are developing a new culture and they see that. So it would be nice to give them a victory, we all want success. They see that the effort and commitment is very strong. We're starting again and we must fight for success."
