Ivar's return boost Royals

Posted on: Mon 28 Sep 2009
Ivar Ingimarsson was delighted to be back in action for the Royals this weekend after eight months out injured.

Our club captain put in a very solid performance at the back, and just wanted three points to cap off his return.

He said, "It was good to be back playing, but disappointing that we lost the lead and lost our way a little.

"To be fair to Watford, over the first eight games they have been playing better than we have and got more results. So maybe a point is not so bad for where things are now.

"It was just one long ball we didn't deal with, and we didn't get the goal at the other end. It's not like everything had collapsed, sometimes you just need to be able to dig it out.

"We were a bit more solid overall but maybe we didn't play the football we want to play for long enough."

The Royals are without a home win since the end of January, but Ingimarsson refutes any suggestion that is affecting the players. "No. Most of the players haven't even been here so I can't understand that point at all.

"The fans have been used to very successful times here. They are used to winning and don't remember much further back. We're in a time of change, I don't want to repeat that too often but it is a build over time.

"We are preparing well, it's just not happening in games and we are as hurt as any fan, be sure of that."

Boss Brendan Rodgers was delighted to have his captain back and praised his display. "He was outstanding and you can see why he was probably missed last year.

"He's not played for 8 months but he's trained well. He's a great leader of the club and the team. He slotted back in like he'd played every week, he was very assured. He will be a massive plus and will steady the ship. He's a good guy."
