'Kebe can be a top player'

Posted on: Thu 01 Oct 2009
Manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to get the very best out of Jimmy Kebe and help the flying winger fulfil his undoubted potential in a Reading shirt.

Kebe, 25, found the net in our impressive 2-1 win at Preston in midweek, and the Malian was in great form.

Rodgers is determined to help him reproduce that excellent form and develop on a consistent basis, saying, "I told Jimmy at half time on Tuesday that he was Premier class.

"I've been lucky to work at three levels; club class, Premier class and world class. He wasn't quite world class but he's got all the attributes to be a top Premier League player.

"His pace is frightening, he can run with it and cross, he can finish. The word is just consistency.

"I had a player like that at Watford, Tamas Priskin, and you have to encourage. He's not a British, aggressive type, you have to nurture and develop. He was outstanding, he needs patience but was outstanding with and without the ball."

Our other goalscorer on the night Simon Church was also impressive, and Brendan praised the 20-year-old's mental strength after the recent passing of his father.

Brendan said, "Simon will be a top young player. He's showed great courage, his father was ill for a long time and you would not have seen the burden. I've known him for a long time and seen him flourish."
