Royals boss Brendan Rodgers was left understandably frustrated after seeing his team beaten 3-1 by league leaders West Brom on Saturday afternoon.
Matt Mills' early goal put us in an excellent position, and we then rued a great Jobi McAnuff chance that would have made it 2-0 soon after. But West Brom, inspired by winger Jerome Thomas, turned the game around to take all three points.
Rodgers said, "Yet again we started well, our game plan was perfect in how we were going to defend and attack.
"We got in front, and you sensed the home crowd just starting to turn, but we never capitalised on that.
"We gave them hope with a stupid goal, and from that moment we still tried to play but we weren't good enough, they were better than us.
"Right now I think we just struggle to play under pressure. Whenever the game is in the balance we can do well, today we had the initiative, went in front and then we're giving teams opportunities to score. All three goals today were from us, we had possession and gave it away.
"From a very good start and looking comfortable it was a very, very disappointing result in the end.
"When you go behind confidence is not great, but you have to get through it. The fitness and conditioning is good but it's a mentality thing for us at the moment.
"It was only really in the last two or three minutes of the game that we started to do what we'd done early on, which is to get the ball wide and get crosses in.
"It's a disappointing result after what looked potentially to be a good performance for us and we've got to lick our wounds and go again."
McAnuff missed a cracking chance around the fifteen minute mark, and soon afterwards his unfortunate miscued backpass allowed Thomas to make it 1-1.
Brendan said, "That's what it's about at this level. We could have gone 2-0 up but then we give away a disappointing goal. The consequences of winning and losing are very high, the margins are very small, so we've just got to turn those stupid mistakes that we make around - you go back to the Middlesbrough game and it was two stupid mistakes. Teams aren't really having to work to score.
"When they drew level we stopped playing how we had been asking the players to play. We looked to do our own thing, and we're not good enough to do that. You have to do what you're being asked to do.
"The players are very, very disappointed and we have got to produce on the field, simple as that. We'll continue to work hard and away from home we have been good. You saw first half that we were a match for them."
