Women close the gap at top of table

Posted on: Tue 27 Oct 2009

Frank Rodriguez's women closed the gap on league leaders Barnet at the weekend, with a good 2-0 win away at Charlton.

The Royals moved to within three points of the North London division leaders thanks to two first half goals on Sunday afternoon.

Reading took a 23rd minute lead when Francesca Kirby found strike star Danielle Puddefoot in the penalty box and Puddefoot slotted home from close range.

And the lead was doubled eight minutes later when Megan Lynch's save from a one-on-one situation only fell to Melissa Fletcher, who was quickest to react to the loose ball and pounce to make it 2-0.

Elsewhere, Barnet were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth, who came from behind to become only the second side to deny Barnet a win this season.
